Parenting tips
Say no with confidence:
When you have to tell your child they can’t have something, offer an equally preferred alternative!
You can say, ‘no, you can’t have iPad, you can have a snack’, or ‘no, you can’t jump in puddles, let’s do skip!’.
Struggling with transitions?
For individuals that struggle with transitions, use a preferred item to help them transition. For example, hold up teddy and say ‘let’s go to the car’. You can also use a backpack to transfer their favourite items with them. This can help them feel safe.
Catch them being good
Any attention is better than no attention so make sure you are attending to the behaviour you want to see more of!
Praise your children when they are helping each other, using calm voices or getting along and make a habit of it. It’s easy to attend to undesirable behaviour and ignore the good behaviour. Focus on the good and watch it grow!
